Regathering Update

Jul 16, 2020

Redeemer Family—

By now, if you’re on our email list, you’ve received an update from your Congregational Lead Pastor about our plans to re-gather.

In today’s blog post, we’ll consolidate that news for each congregation so you can know what’s coming, and know how you can participate in other gatherings we’re hosting.

Before the update, let me remind you of one of the tensions we mentioned in our May Member Meeting. In that meeting, we discussed how we’re trying to make wise decisions about our gatherings, knowing that there are a variety of opinions on the question.

Just in the last week, our staff have received messages that have stretched the spectrum of “It is simply not safe or responsible to re-gather right now, in any capacity” to “What is taking so long? We should have resumed gatherings two months ago.

Like churches and leaders across the country, we’re doing our best to make really difficult decisions with some really confusing (and sometimes conflicting) data. While we’re under no illusion that we’re doing it perfectly, each congregation is working to create re-gathering timelines and strategies that will be meaningful for you to participate in, wise in regard to present risks, and in compliance with local laws and regulations.

So, with that said, here is an update from all three of our congregations.

REDEEMER INDEPENDENCE

Last Sunday, our Independence congregation became the first Redeemer congregation to resume public gatherings!

This was exciting for us for two reasons (besides the obvious win of gathering together again).

First, last Sunday marked the first Sunday in a new facility. Over the last several months, we’ve reached an agreement with Bethel Baptist Church to share their church building on Sunday mornings and have moved out of the storefront that has been home to The Avenue for the last five years.

Second, Sunday marked the formal launch of Independence as a Redeemer congregation. We had originally planned a soft-launch at Easter, so to re-gather under the Redeemer name was really special.

Join us in praying for our Independence Congregation! And, if you live in the area and may want to make this congregation your church home, go check them out this Sunday at 9 am! You can register to do so here.

REDEEMER JOHNSON COUNTY

Our Johnson County congregation plans to resume Sunday gatherings on Sunday, August 9, with one service at 10:30 am. RedeemerKIDS will not be available in August.

We will gather at our current location (New Haven at 87th & Antioch) for four Sundays before this congregation makes an exciting transition: moving to a permanent facility! Redeemer is taking steps to purchase Salem Lutheran Church in Lenexa, KS, and if all goes according to plan, we should have keys to this building sometime in September.

We’re still working on our plans for what that transition will look like, and will be in regular communication with our Johnson County congregation throughout the next 6-8 weeks. But, join us in celebrating all that God is doing in this congregation. And, if you plan to participate in a service on August 9 at Johnson County, please let us know by clicking here.

REDEEMER MIDTOWN

Our Midtown congregation is planning to resume Sunday gatherings on Sunday, August 16, with two services at 8:30 and 10:30 am. RedeemerKIDS will not be immediately available, but may be added in September.

Our Midtown Team is still finalizing our procedures for how we plan to host these services, and you will have all the info you need by the first week of August.

PURSUIT SERVICES & PRAYER GATHERINGS

Our Sunday evening Pursuit Services are now open to the public! We’re moving the time up a bit to 6:30 pm, beginning this week. Join us as we seek the face of God together through prayer, worship, and teaching.

These services will continue every Sunday evening at 6:30 pm at Redeemer Midtown, and all are welcome. Per Kansas City’s ordinance, face masks are required inside our building.

In addition, we plan to continue our mid-week Prayer Meetings as well. These have been a really meaningful rhythm for our staff, and we’re pleased to welcome you into those if you’d like to join.

These are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 12 pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 am. If you would like to join us, come to the building at that time and ring the doorbell at our Office Entrance (on the South side of Redeemer Midtown). We will ring you in and help you get to the Sanctuary.

As always, if you have any questions, please shoot us an email. We hope to see you at one of our services when they resume over the next month!
