AN UPDATE ON THE KATZ BUILDING
Seven years ago, Redeemer Fellowship purchased the Katz Building at Westport Road & Main Street to support our vision to see artistic and cultural renewal in Kansas City. Redeemer offered the building to artists in the community, providing this group with low-cost studio space to create, host events and build relationships.
However, as time has passed, the demands of the aging Katz Building have grown significantly. Redeemer has lacked the capital in our ministry budget to invest in developing or improving the facility in the way we think the neighborhood deserves.
Simultaneously, our church has grown, resulting in immediate facility needs for our congregations, as well as opportunities to grow key ministries that require capital investment. For this reason, after prayer and much consideration, our Elders have decided to take the building to market sometime in the next year.
In the time we’ve owned the Katz Building, it has been home to gallery shows and community events that have encouraged the growth of arts in our city. Over the coming months, we are working with the leadership at the Katz to help the 25+ artists currently working out of the space transition.
We stand by our vision to support artistic and cultural renewal in our community and will continue to find opportunities to advance this mission with financial support, ongoing partnerships, and support from our congregations.
Our Elders will have the opportunity to influence who purchases the Katz and are committed to ensuring the building is owned by someone with a vested interest in the community, who sees this space as an opportunity to help Kansas City flourish now and well into the future.
