Redeemer's Care and Counseling Ministries help congregants connect the truth of the gospel to the specific realities of their lives and experience transformation in the areas of weakness, wounding, and waywardness. Aligned with Redeemer’s beliefs and values, we seek to provide help that is Clinically-Informed, Gospel-Centered, Spirit-Empowered, and Communally-Integrated.
We provide both Care Ministries and Counseling Ministries at Redeemer. While these ministries have similarities, they are distinct from one another. These ministries are led by our Associate Pastor of Care and Counseling, Wyatt Bury, and our Care Minister, Amanda Smith.
Counseling Ministries are provided by licensed professionals or professionals-in-training who provide treatment. Counseling Ministries include one-time consultations with Wyatt Bury, counseling provided by Counseling Student Interns, and referrals to outside licensed professionals.
Redeemer’s Care and Counseling Consultations are typically one-time phone calls with Wyatt Bury, Associate Pastor of Care and Counseling. The goals of the consultation are for you to gain a better understanding of the nature of your concern, what you can do about it, and how your church can help. Your consultation can be about any number of concerns such as mental or emotional issues, relationships, behavior patterns, or spiritual life. Wyatt will aim to provide some initial assessment and recommendations or referrals for next steps in addressing your concern.
Our Counseling StudentInternship ministry provides on-site counseling to individuals, couples, and families from supervised professionals-in-training. This ministry follows a “teaching hospital model,” where our people can receive a high level of help from supervised professionals-in-training, who are committed to being Clinically-Informed, Gospel-Centered, Spirit-Empowered, and Communally-Integrated. A small fee is charged to keep this ministry sustainable. Financial aid is available. Interested in meeting with a Counseling Intern? Begin with a consultation.
Targeted referrals to outside providers are made when it becomes clear that someone would be best helped by resources that Redeemer cannot provide. Wyatt provides referrals to providers whom he has determined are aligned with our beliefs and values. You will be asked to sign a Release of Information so that Wyatt and the counselor you are referred to can coordinate your care and counseling. Interested in a Referral? Begin with a consultation.
Care Ministries are carried out by trained volunteers or ministers and provide support, encouragement, and point people to gospel truth. Care Ministries include Care Partnership, Care Groups, and Care Seminars.
Care Partnership is a structured relationship with a trained volunteer. They meet with individuals and couples and minister through: 1) Reading and discussing a self-help book with you; 2) Listening carefully and compassionately to you; 3) Ministering in prayer over you; 4) Facilitating connection to additional community supports for you. Living Waters is a 20-session intensive Care Group ministry, which focuses on helping you experience Christ-centered transformation in your relational, gendered, and sexual lives. At Redeemer, Living Waters is for everyone, and addresses the reality that all men and women are broken and can become more whole. Living Waters can be especially helpful for those who have been wounded or want to address unwanted habits in their sexuality, struggle with feeling isolated or unhappy with their relationships, or want to grow in their biblical understanding of masculine and feminine identity. Grief Share is a 13-week, biblically-based Care Group ministry to help you work through the grief you are experiencing due to the death of a loved one. If you’ve experienced the death of a spouse, child, parent, family member, or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated with many questions about things you’ve never faced before. Interested in this group? Visit our events page.
Road to Restoration is a two-day seminar, which focuses on healing to the wounds of your heart from suffering and harm. Using scripture and emotional wellness principles, we help you address spiritual and emotional wounds caused by harm such as abuse, neglect and violence, and painful ordeals such as chronic illness or loss. At this seminar, we provide a safe space for group members to: discover what the Bible says about suffering, learn about trauma and its effects, explore any trauma or harm you carry, get unstuck and reconnected, and build resilience for the future. The Premarital Seminar is a weekend designed to help engaged and seriously dating couples as they prepare for marriage. This seminar provides biblical instruction on God’s design for marriage. It covers such topics as engaging expectations, improving communication, fostering intimacy, and much more. Couples will hear teaching from our Pastors and other leaders that will provide a biblical framework for marriage as well as practical help in addressing common difficulties that most couples face. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from other married couples as they share stories of success and failure from their own marriages. Interested in this seminar?
