RESET: A 5-Week Class & Sermon Series

RESET

Today is an amazing time to be a part of Redeemer Fellowship. We closed 2018 by marking our 10th Birthday and asking God to give us more of himself in the decade to come. Then, in response, we kicked off 2019 with a season of focused pursuit and dependance as we began the new year together.

Now, we’d like to invite you to take five weeks and join us as we ask some simple questions:
- Where did we come from and why are we here?
- What does discipleship and life in the Kingdom of God look like in Kansas City in 2019?
- What does it mean to live together in a covenant community?
- What could it look like for you to raise your hand and say, “I’m in.”

Whether this is your first Sunday or you’ve been a member of Redeemer Fellowship since the beginning, we’d like to invite you to Reset, a 5-week class and sermon series beginning on Sunday, 3/10.

On Sundays from 3/10-4/7, we’ll walk through some of these questions together in our corporate gatherings. Then, we’ll host classes each week to make specific applications for what this means as members of Redeemer Fellowship. We’ll be shutting down Small Groups and much of our other programming during this season to allow for people to attend the class.

The Class

Beginning Wednesday, 3/13 we are asking all current and prospective members to engage in this 5-week class focused on our vision for membership, discipleship, and life in the Kingdom of God. Classes will be offered Wednesday evenings at Midtown, Thursday evenings in JOCO, and  Saturday mornings at Midtown. Each week’s class will be identical in form and content, so you are welcome to attend any of the three sessions each week. Childcare will not be available, so pick whichever class works best for your family!

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS at Redeemer Midtown (6:30 - 8 pm)

3/13, 3/20 , 3/27 , 4/3 , 4/10

THURSDAY NIGHTS in Johnson County (6:30 - 8 pm)

Small groups will not formally meet during these 5 weeks and they are encouraged to attend together as much as possible. After Easter, small groups will resume and spend 4 weeks focusing on direct application of the class content, so engagement during the class will set your group up to gain the most from this experience.

The Sermon Series

On Sundays from 3/10 - 4/7, our sermon series will coincide with the Reset class. More information on this to come!

Reset FAQ

What is the purpose of this class?

At our Ten Year Party, we cast vision for the burden of drawing our body back into the heart of what it means to be a member of Redeemer Fellowship. As our church has grown and many things around us are continually changing, we hope to bring clarity and an understanding of what we are committing to together as Redeemer Fellowship. We are choosing to spend this season focused on calling all of our people back to our vision for membership, discipleship, and life in the Kingdom of God.

Why are we asking everyone, even existing members, to attend?

A lot has changed in the last 10 years. Our world has changed, our church has changed, we've all changed individually. Our Membership Class has taken many forms over the last ten years. Some of you attended an early, 8 or 10 week “Gospel Class." Others of you became members with a weekend seminar, while others still call Redeemer their home but haven't had an opportunity to become a member yet. With all the change we've faced in 10 years, our Elders feel a burden to get everyone together to talk about what what discipleship, life in the Kingdom of God, and covenant look like for us right here and right now.

What will my small group do during this time?

While small groups will not formally meet during these 5 weeks, they are encouraged to attend together as much as possible and are welcome to continue to meet informally. After Easter, small groups will resume and spend 4 weeks focusing on direct application of the class content, so engagement during the class will set your group up to gain the most from this experience.

If I’m not in a small group, when can I join one?

Reset is both a Membership Class and an introduction to life at Redeemer. After participating in the 5 week class, you can then choose be placed into a new small group following the class that will be specifically for those who participate in Reset. We are excited to help you find a group!

What if I don't want to pursue membership, but I want to join a small group?

As part of our Reset, we are encouraging everyone to engage with the body in deeper ways than they previously have. We believe that commitment and community both flourish when they are joined together. While this class will not require you to become a member, if you have hesitations, we do hope that the merging of our membership class and Group Launch will better prepare you for your ongoing involvement at Redeemer, and prepare you for the fullness that both membership and Small Groups can offer when pursued together.

If I’m not a member yet, when can I become one?

After this class! Join us for Reset, and during the process we'll outline what your next steps toward membership will be. Then, after the class we'll walk with you through the remainder of the process of becoming a member.

Is there childcare for the Reset Class?

With the hopes of such a large class and in asking all of our people -- including our childcare volunteers -- to attend, we will not be providing childcare. Because of this, we anticipate that some couples may have to come separately, and we encourage you to choose whichever times and locations works best for you and your family.
